Styrian Erzberg, Eisenerz, Styria, Austria The Styrian Erzberg in Austria is the type locality for ankerite. Unaltered crystals are white to beige - and normally not pure ankerite but members of the ankerite-dolomite series. So even on the type locality. This group with rhomoedric crystals forms a perfect thumbnail of 3,3 cm. |

Styrian Erzberg, Eisenerz, Styria, Austria 11.6 x 8.2 x 4.6 cm. Have you ever seen a mineral specimen quite like this? Probably not, because this is an old Austrian aragonite, and they are just not around on the market. Its form is just incredible - an intricate forest of dozens of wormy tentacles. It seems almost more biological than mineralogical! Aragonites can take on these forms from ... |
