Kudriavy (Kudryavyi) volcano, Iturup Island, Kuril Islands, Sakhalinskaya Oblast', Far-Eastern Region, Russia

7.4 x 4.0 x 3.9 cm. This is a remarkably rich, sparkling specimen just smothered with sharp microcrystals of this rare species (to perhaps 1mm). This location has also given us rheniite, and is a very important occurrence for rare metallic species formed from the volcanic vents here. Analyzed and from the inventory of Josef Vajdak.

Enargite : Cu3AsS4, Alunite : KAl3[(OH)3|SO4]2

Mendeleev volcano (Ruasu-dake), Kunashir Island, Kuril Islands, Sakhalinskaya Oblast', Far-Eastern Region, Russia

Before discovery of Bereznyakovskoe deposit enargite was known on the USSR territory only in microscopic size grains. So here you see the largest and the best crystalline group of enargite known up to now from territory of former USSR. Associated mineral is pearly white alunite scales. FOV is ~12x10 mm. Collected in early 70th by L. M. Lebedev ...

Prasolovskoe Au deposit, Kunashir Island, Kuril Islands, Sakhalinskaya Oblast', Far-Eastern region, Russia

Triangular sections of goldfieldite crystals in quartz vein. Associating minerals are chalcopyrite, Te-bearing tetrahedrite, native tellur and gold (both are micro size). FOW ~1 cm. Pavel M. Kartashov collection and photo.

Prasolovskoe Au deposit, Kunashir Island, Kuril Islands, Sakhalinskaya Oblast', Far-Eastern region, Russia

Triangular sections of tetrahedral crystals of Goldfieldite. Well formed its crystals are wisible in the cavity at the right part of the picture. Beige Cuzticite microcrystalline spherulitic agregates grow on the bottom of this cavity. Other cavities in upper part of the image are filled with brownish aggregates of Pyrophillite and Hydromica ...
