Aeschynite-(Y) : (Y,Ca,Fe,Th)(Ti,Nb)2(O,OH)6

West Keivy Block, Western Keivy Massif, Kola peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast', Northern Region, Russia

Prismatic crystals of aeschynite-(Y) (variety blomstrandine) in alkaline granite pegmatite matrix. Associated minerals are quartz, aegirine, britholite-(Y), zircon. Specimen size is 5.5x4x3 cm and its radioactivity from different sides 600-800 μR/h. Collected by M. Torokhov. Platon Mt., Western Keivy. Pavel M. Kartashov collection and photo.

Multiple photos availableAstrophyllite : (K,Na)3(Fe,Mn)7Ti2Si8O24(O,OH)7, Ilmenite : Fe2+TiO3

West Keivy Block, Western Keivy Massif, Kola peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast', Northern Region, Russia

Sprays of astrophyllite with large plate crystals of black ilmenite in alkaline granite pegmatite. This astrophyllite is very similar to hydroastrophyllite from Southern boundary of the massif, but unfortunately it has quite usual full-K composition. Specimen size is 8x5x3 cm. Collected by Victor Levitskii in 2004 near Rova river. Pavel M. ...

Astrophyllite : (K,Na)3(Fe,Mn)7Ti2Si8O24(O,OH)7, Quartz : SiO2

West Keivy Block, Western Keivy Massif, Kola peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast', Northern Region, Russia

Bronze crystaline masses of astrophyllite in quartz matrix. I am remember, how I was surprised by this association, when similar specimens had appear in Moscow in the middle of 80th. Of course now I am understand, that alkalinity is independent of silica content in the rock, and presence or absence of astrophyllite in a alkaline granite ruled by ...

Britholite-(Y) : Ca2(Y,Ca)3[(OH,F)|(SiO4,PO4)3], Bastnäsite-(Ce) : (Ce,La)[F|CO3], Tengerite-(Y) : Y2[CO3]3 · 2-3H2O

West Keivy Block, Western Keivy Massif, Kola peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast', Northern Region, Russia

Britholite-(Y) brown glassy grains in quartz matrix with minor black magnetite. This britholite is Y-dominant, but REE spectrum displased to the left side with the maximum on Ce. So the main alteration product of this britholite-(Y) is bastnasite-(Ce) - its yellow masses are well visible at right part of specimen. Minute snow-white films of ...

West Keivy Block, Western Keivy Massif, Kola peninsula, Murmanskaja Oblast', Northern Region, Russia

2.5x2 cm monograin fragment of pinksh tveitite-(Y) from pegmatite of alkaline granites. Microprobe and PXRD confirmed. Mineral has distinct yellow SW UV fluorescention. Collected by Igor V.
