Apatite-(CaF) : Ca5[F|(PO4)3], Chlorite Group

Puiva (Pouyva) Mount, Saranpaul, Prepolar Ural, Tyumenskaya Oblast', Urals Region, Russia

This is a complex crystal of fluorapatite with multiple stepped growth terminations. The near colorless crystal has outstanding mirror bright luster on its central faces. The edge faces are enhanced by chlorite growth. There is no apparent damage although the specimen has been contacted at the base where it was wrested from the earth. This is the ...

A wonderful cluster of five bladed crystals (three large, two small), with superb deep color, excellent clarity, and glassy luster. As equally tempting as the other axinite, and very different in overall appearance with its thicker crystals. 2.9 x 2.3 x 2.2 cm

Axinite : (Ca,Mn)2(Fe,Mn,Mg)Al2BSi4O15OH

Puiva (Pouyva) Mount, Saranpaul, Prepolar Ural, Tyumenskaya Oblast', Urals Region, Russia

Brilliantly lustrous and gemmy, 2 cm crystal, sitting wonderfully on matrix! This is the BEST aesthetic quality you could ever ask for in an axinite! It is pristine save for an infinitesimal chip on the back edge, and qualifies as competition quality in my book. 3.2 x 2.1 x 1.3 cm

Axinite-(Fe) : Ca2Fe2+Al2[OH|BSi4O15]

Puiva (Pouyva) Mount, Saranpaul, Prepolar Ural, Tyumenskaya Oblast', Urals Region, Russia

This is one of the now-famous floater axinites, gemmy and complete all around, that came out in the late 1980s from this remote mining region. They were gone from teh market shortly after, and haven't come out since that time. They stand as being the world's finest axinite crystals of size, to my mind, for the extreme glassiness, lustre, and ...
