Acanthite : Ag2S, Rhodochrosite : MnCO3

Zanett tunnel, Grizzly Bear Mine, Ouray, Ouray District (Uncompahgre District), Ouray Co., Colorado, USA

Acanthite with rhodochrosite, quartz, and pyrite. Field of view is 9.4 mm.
The acanthite seems to grow on native silver after the specimen is collected.
My theory is that the presents of sulfides (pyrite) produces this growth.
Specimen collected by Dorothy Atlee at the Zannet tunnel; Ouray, Colorado, USA and photo by Phil McCollum.

Chalcopyrite : CuFeS2, Chalcocite : Cu2S

2100 Level, Campbell Mine, Ouray District (Uncompahgre District), Ouray Co., Colorado, USA

2.3 x 1.4 x 1.3 cm. Here is a fabulous thumber for either a thumbnail collector or a Colorado collector: a very sharp TWIN of chalcopyrite with a coating of chalcocite which gives it its blue and gold iridescence. This is from the classic Ouray mining district, and is an old-timer and very hard to find now!

Fluorite : CaF2, Quartz : SiO2

Zanett tunnel, Grizzly Bear Mine, Ouray, Ouray District (Uncompahgre District), Ouray Co., Colorado, USA

4.5 x 3.3 x 2.9 cm. A good representative Fluorite specimen from the Grizzly Bear mine featuring a few colorless cubic crystals resembling tumbling dice, which are sitting atop sparkling Quartz crystals on massive sulfide matrix. The largest Fluorite cube measures 8 mm on edge. Ex. Jaime Bird Collection.
