β-Fergusonite-(Y) : YNbO4

Neprimetnyi pegmatite, Mount Ulyn Khuren, Khaldzan Buragtag Massif, Altai Mts, Hovd Aimag (Khovd Aimag), Mongolia

Brown agregate of tabular fergusonite-beta-(Y) crystals associated with orange zircon, black ferriallanite-(Ce) and quartz into apoeudialyte pseudomorphose. FOV 10x8 mm. Note special nontetragonal and nonbipyramidal morphology of xls and theyr "dry" lustre so characteristic for nonmetamict niobates. X-ray identification of not heated specimen. ...

Ferriallanite-(Ce) : {CaCe}{Fe3+AlFe2+}[O|OH|SiO4|Si2O7], Kainosite-(Y) : Ca2(Y,Ce)2Si4O12CO3·H2O

Neprimetnyi pegmatite, Mount Ulyn Khuren, Khaldzan Buragtag Massif, Altai Mts, Hovd Aimag (Khovd Aimag), Mongolia

Short prismatic black crystals of ferriallanite-(Ce) 2 mm size in white slightly weathered kainosite-(Y). Orange prismes are zircon of the first generation. Fragment of the holotype specimen. Pavel M. Kartashov collection and photo.

Ferriallanite-(Ce) : {CaCe}{Fe3+AlFe2+}[O|OH|SiO4|Si2O7], Kainosite-(Y) : Ca2(Y,Ce)2Si4O12CO3·H2O

Neprimetnyi pegmatite, Mount Ulyn Khuren, Khaldzan Buragtag Massif, Altai Mts, Hovd Aimag (Khovd Aimag), Mongolia

Holotype specimen of ferriallanite-(Ce) 14x9x3 cm size. Structure of broken apoeudyalite pseudomorphoses is well visible. Black grains are ferriallanite, yellowish prismes - zircon-I, greyish material - quartz, white spots - kainosite-(Y). Large black grain on upper part of the specimen - yttrian ilvaite (up to 8 % Y2O3).
