Jacobs Ruby Mine, Cowee Valley, Macon Co., North Carolina, USA These crystals are 2-5mm in diameter. The photographer and collector is Rex Biggers whom currently resides in Salem, UT. Full crystals are rare at this location since it is a placer deposit in an ancient riverbed. Note the triangular growth-patterns and striations which are trypical of many corundum crystals. |

Jacobs Ruby Mine, Cowee Valley, Macon Co., North Carolina, USA Theses rubies are quite large for the Jacobs Mine, 7-16mm in size. Most stones from this deposit are usually under four carats. Top row, left to right: 5.2, 5.5, 9.8, and 11.3 carats. Bottom row: 3.2, 4.6, 4, and 3.8 carats. One ruby of approximately 24 carats was discovered within the past 6 years.
