Aheylite : (Fe2+,Zn)Al6[(OH)4|(PO4)2]2 · 4H2O, Cassiterite : SnO2

Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

6.3 x 4.5 x 2.8 cm. Aheylite is all of the nearly solid covering of greenish-colored botryoidal crystal aggregates on black cassiterite, here. The small acicular crystals are a rare habit of wavellite, surprisingly (sometimes mistaken for single aheylite crystals). X-Ray confirmed. Ex. Richard Kosnar Collection.

Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

3.5 x 2.3 x 0.8 cm. Pastel blue, translucent, spheres to .2 cm across of the very rare phosphate, aheylite, are perched on very lustrous crystals of cassiterite, to .6 cm across, along with colorless, quartz crystals. Aheylite, a hydrated, iron, aluminum, phosphate. Ex. Brian Kosnar.

Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

Specimen Size: 6.0 x 5.1 x 1.5 cm. This piece is one of the type specimens for Aheylite. It was used in the original description of the species by Gene Foord in 1983. It hosts dozens of pale powder-blue spherical aggregates of Aheylite measuring between 2-3 mm which are sitting atop lustrous black Cassiterite, translucent to transparent ...

Cassiterite : SnO2

Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

Cassiterite from Mina Huanuni, Huanuni, Dalence, Oruro

In this group the crystals are brilliant, and have perfectly defined faces and edges. They have the clear form of the twin, which is not often seen from this locality.

Cassiterite : SnO2, Quartz : SiO2

Huanuni mine, Huanuni, Dalence Province, Oruro Department, Bolivia

4.2 x 2.8 x 2.7 cm. The mine at Huanuni is one of the largest tin mines in Bolivia. This mine is better known for its phosphate species, but some of the more unique and attractive Cassiterite specimens are found there. A few sharp, lustrous, black/brown, prismatic "drill-bit"-habit crystal groups of Cassiterite sit atop frosted, white, prismatic ...
