A rich, old-time, showy specimen of two, tiny wire silver nests sitting at the base of a rich mass of acanthite on milky quartz from the famous Bulldog Mountain Mine at Creede, Colorado. Ex Richard Hauck Collection. 4.5 x 3.5 x 2.5 cm

Acanthite : Ag2S, Rhodochrosite : MnCO3

Zanett tunnel, Grizzly Bear Mine, Ouray, Ouray District (Uncompahgre District), Ouray Co., Colorado, USA

Acanthite with rhodochrosite, quartz, and pyrite. Field of view is 9.4 mm.
The acanthite seems to grow on native silver after the specimen is collected.
My theory is that the presents of sulfides (pyrite) produces this growth.
Specimen collected by Dorothy Atlee at the Zannet tunnel; Ouray, Colorado, USA and photo by Phil McCollum.

Acanthite : Ag2S, Silver : Ag

Bulldog Mountain Mine, Creede District, Mineral Co., Colorado, USA

Width of field is 5.4 mm. Collection of Jesse Crawford. The depth of field has been enhanced using Helicon Focus (10 exposures). Equipment: Nikon D-100 digital camera on a homemade microscope. This is an acanthite crust on crystalline silver. The one in the middle looks like a giraffe's head doesn't it?

Actinolite : ☐Ca2(Mg,Fe2+)5(Si8O22)(OH)2, Diopside : CaMg[Si2O6]

Calumet Mine (Calumet; Calumet No. 2; Hecla; Hecla No. 2; Calumet Iron Mine; Calumet-Hecla-Smithville Magnetite Deposit; Patented Placer Claims: Calumet; Hecla-Williamson; Smithville No. 2; CF&I Company Mine), Turret District, Chaffee Co., Colorado, USA

A very good hand specimen for what is known as "uralite". These are prismatic crystals of diopside to 1 cm in length, these replaced by green actinolite. A very good pseudomorph specimen that is in very good shape damage-wise. Sits nicely for display. Size: 9.5 x 7.5 x 6.2 cm. Ex Don Belsher collection.

A choice example of this noted Colorado pseudomorph with prismatic diopside crystals to 3 cm in length set on a 7.8 x 6.2 x 6.4 cm matrix. The diopside crystals are replaced by green actinolite. This is a large crystal for one of these, known locally as "uralite". Minor black magnetite in association. Ex Don Belsher collection. Ref: Rocks & ...
