Beryl (Var: Emerald) : Be3(Al,Cr)2Si6O18

Itabira, Iron Quadrangle, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

3.4 x 2.8 x 2.2 cm. Not from Columbia, but from BRAZIL - a cluster of maybe a DOZEN tightly intergrown crystals of bright green emerald! They are completely joined at one end, so you could probably call this a compound crystal. The crystals are not gemmy enough to cut, but they definitely qualify as "translucent to transparent" rather than opaque ...

Hematite : Fe2O3

Itabira, Iron Quadrangle, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

This is an old Brazilian hematite that came out of the Hauck Collection, a lamellar compound crystal of flat plates with gunmetal luster, complete all around (with the matrix attachment contact along one edge). Another old label accompanying this specimen shows it to have passed to Hauck from an old collection in New York. 3.0 x 2.4 x 0.4cm

Very choice large blocky mirror-bright lustrous metallic hematite crystals are forming a 4.5 x 3.7 x 3.7 cm cluster without matrix. Very slight chipping is present as seen in the photos. Quite nice for this species! Ex Gene and Sally LaBerge collection.
