Antigorite : (Mg,Fe2+)3[(OH)4|Si2O5]

Wood's Chrome Mine (Wood's Mine), Texas, Little Britain Township, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, USA

Chromium variety of Antigorite, a member of the Serpentine group of minerals. A classic occurrence from Woods Chrome Mine, Texas, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania. These specimens were often reffered to as Kammererite, or Chromium Clinoclore, but this is inaccurate. Specimens from this occurance even fall somewhat short of a true Antigorite identity, ...

Wood's Chrome Mine (Wood's Mine), Texas, Little Britain Township, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, USA

A massive but beautifully purple colored piece of Chromian Antigorite from the dumps at Wood's Chrome Mine. This piece is fairly representative of the material found there. It is about 4 inches across at it's largest. It was self-collected and in my personal collection.

4.6 x 3.9 x 1.9 cm. Genthite is an old synonym for antigorite. The bright green, lustrous antigorite richly covering this specimen has an unusual knobby/bubbly/drusy form.

A 7.3 x 5.5 x 4.8 cm matrix, this rich with green coatings of crystalline antigorite. Very nice old-time specimen for the locality! There is an old A.E. Foote label glued to the bottom of the piece.

Brucite : Mg(OH)2

Wood's Chrome Mine (Wood's Mine), Texas, Little Britain Township, Lancaster Co., Pennsylvania, USA

A superb old specimen from this classic locality which has produced some of the world's best specimens for this species (and certainly the best ever found in the US). Because of the widely known association between this classic locality and noted collector William Jefferis who was the major collector of this material in the mid to late 1800's, ...
