Barbosalite : Fe2+Fe3+2[OH|PO4]2

Bull Moose Mine, Custer, Custer District, Custer Co., South Dakota, USA

Barbosalite from the Bull Moose Mine is generally thought of as a rather formless granular matrix associated with such minerals as strengite and phosphosiderite. This BSE/SEM image reveals however, that barbosalite is indeed crystallized. SEM by Bart Cannon, Cannon Microprobe, Seattle,WA. Field of view approximately 200 microns. Photoshop ...

4.5 x 4.2 x 2.1 cm. This remarkable large crystal is the best single hureaulite I have personally seen from this mine. The piece hosts a large, well-displayed crystal towering over the contrasting matrix - not just a large hureaulite, then, but an extremely aesthetic crystal overall. The locality is long done in terms of producing its wonderful ...
