Kipushi Mine (Prince Léopold Mine), Kipushi, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre) This is one of the few Adamite specimens known from Kipushi. The mineral is extremly rare at Kipushi and is the only locality within Katanga where it occurs. Found in the 1950's while exploiting the upper levels of the mine. Kamoto East Open cut, Kamoto, Kolwezi, Western area, Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre) 5.3 x 3.8 x 3.5 cm. From the TYPE LOCALITY for both species, this is a superb specimen with eye-visible flat-laying kamotoite-(Y) crystals to 5mm or so, amidst other species including ultra-rare Astrocyanite-(Ce) (blue) with bubbly Uranophane around the periphery. |
