Azurite : Cu3[OH|CO3]2, Malachite : Cu2[(OH)2|CO3]

L'Etoile du Congo Mine (Star of the Congo Mine; Kalukuluku Mine), Lubumbashi (Elizabethville), Southern area, Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre)

While there seems to be an over abundance of Malachite from the Congo, I have not seen too many Azurite specimens from this location. Which in my opinion makes them kind of rare. This Azurite exibits the beginnings of alteration to it's Copper Carbonate cousin, Malachite.
specimen size = 5.1 x 4.7 x 4 cm.

L'Etoile du Congo Mine (Star of the Congo Mine; Kalukuluku Mine), Lubumbashi (Elizabethville), Southern area, Katanga Copper Crescent, Katanga (Shaba), Democratic Republic of Congo (Zaïre)

6.9 x 6.5 x 3.2 cm. No, this is NOT man-made - it truly is a completely natural, absolutely bizarre occurrence of botryoidal chrysocolla from the Congo. As you can see from the photos, it looks wet and melted, almost like plastic! It is not polished - this is the natural luster. And you have to love the intense deep turquoise color. WOW - cool ...

9.7 x 8.0 x 6.2 cm. Believe it or not, this is not polished - it is a completely natural specimen of chrysocolla from a recent find in Congo, with the most amazing luster and intense deep turquoise color. This is a large specimen, with the chrysocolla all the way around - it was a knob, so the contact is on the bottom.

7.9 x 7.3 x 6.5 cm. Yes, this is a REAL mineral specimen - although the luster and color makes it look artificial! Just an amazing find of botryoidal chrysocolla of a completely unique style, from Congo.
