Almandine : Fe2+3Al2[SiO4]3, Albite-Anorthite Series

Tveit 3 Feldspar Quarry (Steli; Steeli), Tveit, Iveland, Aust-Agder, Norway

Almandine crystals with plagioclase feldspar. Almandine garnets are abundant at the location, both as bands in feldspar, and with muscovite mica. The specimen is 12 x 13 cm, and the largest crystal is just over 2 cm in diameter.

Almandine : Fe2+3Al2[SiO4]3

Tveit 3 Feldspar Quarry (Steli; Steeli), Tveit, Iveland, Aust-Agder, Norway

Almandine crystal embedded in quartz. These are the best developed crystals from this location, and normally is of good quality. This one is 1,8 cm across.

Flattened garnet in mica. Note the complex crystal growth, which is common for amny of the flattened, but not completely flat crystals found trapped between mica sheets at this location.

Almandine : Fe2+3Al2[SiO4]3

Tveit 3 Feldspar Quarry (Steli; Steeli), Tveit, Iveland, Aust-Agder, Norway

Almandine crystal grown inbetween mica sheets. These flattened crystals are typical for the Steli quarry. This crystal is approximately 4 cm in diameter and 3-4mm thick.

Almandine : Fe2+3Al2[SiO4]3

Tveit 3 Feldspar Quarry (Steli; Steeli), Tveit, Iveland, Aust-Agder, Norway

Typical garnet coin. Note the complexity of the crystal. It is just over 3cm in diameter, but only 3mm thick. It is still only transluscent on the edges.
