Numerous specks and veinlets of gold in veins of grey quartz in a mafic quartz diorite. The gold is associated with chalcopyrite and abundant grey metallic unknowns. The grey metallic mineral(s) could be one or more of the species found at the Vermilion mine as described Molnar,Watkinson & Jones 2003. ...

Sperrylite : PtAs2

Vermilion Mine, Denison Township, Sudbury District, Ontario, Canada

0.8 x 0.6 x 0.3 cm. Emplaced on massive chalcopyrite are a few splendent, silvery, crystals of sperrylite, to .2 cm across. Sperrylite is a rare platinum arsenide. Canadian specimens are VERY rare and old, and hard to obtain! This crystal is small but so sharply cubic, and bright, it leaps out.

Vermilion Mine, Denison Township, Sudbury District, Ontario, Canada

1.2 x .7 x .2 cm. A sharp, lustrous 2mm crystal of Sperrylite right on the tip of a matrix shard composed of a very interestring suite of minerals (cubanite, pentlandite, etc). For the locality, this is quite an excellent, attractive Sperrylite. This is the type locality for this rare platinum species. Ex. Charlie Key Collection.

This specimen consists of a portion of massive golden Chalcopyrite that hosts a sharp, brilliant silvery-metallic, cubic crystal of Sperrylite prominently perched on top. These type locality Sperrylite crystals are very rare and usually nearly microscopic when found; while there are at least two other crystals on the specimen that are visible with ...

Vermilion Mine, Denison Township, Sudbury District, Ontario, Canada

Usually these specimens are found as very tiny, submillimeter crystals embedded in matrix - however this significant specimen hosts a prominently perched crystal of Sperrylite that measures an impressive 3.25mm. This specimen consists of a small amount of massive golden Chalcopyrite matrix that hosts a complex cubic crystal of brilliant, ...
