Beryl (Var: Aquamarine) : Be3Al2Si6O18

Teófilo Otoni, Mucuri valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

Mined in July of 1981, this light blue-green, slightly etched, transparent and lustrous aqua, is truly oustanding for the locality and for Brazil in general. It exhibits both a pyramid and a pinacoid at the termination, which is exquisitely formed and glassy. Note the dramatic slanted faces on the termination, shown. There is only very minor ...

A parallel growth of two prismatic crystals with quite acute and very well defined pyramidal terminations. Color, luster and transparency are excellent. A small bit of Albite matrix appears at the base. We especially like this specimen.

Beryl (Var: Morganite) : Be3Al2Si6O18

Teófilo Otoni, Mucuri valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

8.2 x 5.5 x 3.8 cm. This is a bizarre specimen from a different part of Brazil than we normally see producing morganite. This area is better known for topaz and other gems. The crystal has at best a peachy color, not quite pink, but it is colorful and a true morganite. It is gemmy right through the middle and has a matte-finished, opaque rind ...
