Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada This is a magnified view of a small vug. Field of View is 20mm x 15mm. The Aegerine appears as balls of green needles in the center. They are perched on an base of microcline crystals resembling white plates. To the right is a rose colored eudialyte. There is also a clear crystal which I think is natrolite, but am not certain at this point. |

Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada FOV 3 cm wide. Found April 1998. This is part of a faily typical (but larger than average) miarolitic cavity with tufts of green aegirine. The white cavity lining is mostly small microcline xls. The shiny black xl is PS of birnessite/rancieite after serandite. (Thanks to Laszlo Horvath for information regarding the rancieite.) The opal is hard to ... |

Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada Size ~ 6 x 7 cm. Found ca 1996. This is a very typical example of a large contact zone cavity at STA. Quarrying operations generally avoid this material. But sometimes it can be found by the cubic meter. Unfortunately the analcime is not very attractive in person and there are few other minerals. Smaller cavities are more interesting - they can ... |

Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada A 3" x 3" piece of light gray analcime, exhibiting trapezohedral crystal faces typical to the species. Some members of the Montreal Minerological Club dug this out of the east corner of the quarry this and other sample to me. |
