Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile

A group of fine mint green to emerald green Adamite (3 mm. across) laying on Goethite-Limonite. Not visible, there are also some Smithsonite rice-like xx and some Calchedony spheres. This sample shows two different Adamite colours, the mint green and on the other corner a colourless smooth wine. An old sample that has been mined many decades ago ...

Bromargyrite : AgBr, Silver : Ag

Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile

5.2 x 4.5 x 2.3 cm. Unusual "ropey" crystals of Bromargyrite nestled in a specimen that itself has not the shape of random matrix to it…all suggesting this is a solid piece of pure Bromargyrite pseudomorph after silver - quite in line with the locality, but an unusual occurrence nonetheless. From the collection of notable museum supporter ...

Bromargyrite : AgBr

Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile

6.0 x 4.3 x 3.1 cm. A rounded, robust, thick growth of the silver halide bromargyrite, from this classic silver mine which was intensely worked in the late 1800s. A bromargyrite from here of such richness is highly uncommon. Ex. Philadelphia Academy of Sciences Collection.

Chlorargyrite : AgCl

Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile

Numerous patches of waxy brown-gray chlorargyrite crust on breccia matrix. The largest chlorargyrite patch is about 3.5 across. The coloration comes from reaction with light. The traditional chlorargyrite color can be seen where the crust has flaked away.

Field of view: approximately 5 cm

Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile

A neat old-timer from this famous silver mining district! Small bubbly crystallized chlorargyrite is rich throughout the top side of this 11.5 x 9.0 x 7.3 cm matrix. There is one sawn edge on the matrix at lower front of the specimen. No damage. One rarely sees this species available from Chanarcillo on today's market! Comes with many old ...

Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile

Good specimens from this important old Chilean locality are seldom found on today's mineral market. Normally when one sees a specimens from here, it is either silver or proustite. The specimen shown here consists of a 8.8 x 7.2 x 3.7 cm matrix, the top side mostly covered by brownish crystallized chlorargyrite. Exceptionally rich in the ...

Chlorargyrite (Var: Bromian Chlorargyrite) : Ag(Cl,Br)

Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile

A richly covered, two-sided, excellent, old-time specimen from Chile of lustrous, green, mostly micro crystals and a few larger crystals to 8 mm of bromian chlorargyrite on matrix. The old Schortmann"s label says embolite, an old, discredited term for bromian chlorargyrite. The specimen is either from the famous Chanarcillo District or the Type ...

Chlorargyrite (Var: Bromian Chlorargyrite) : Ag(Cl,Br), Conichalcite : CaCu[OH|AsO4], Quartz : SiO2, Chrysocolla : (Cu,Al)2H2Si2O5(OH)4·nH2O

Manto de Cobos mine, Chañarcillo, Copiapó Province, Atacama Region, Chile

An unusual combination of brown waxy octaedrons of Bromian Chlorargyrite xx upon pale Conichalcite puffs aggregates: there are also some Chrysocolla spheres (not visible). Bromian Chlorargyrite xx are rare worldwide, here they appear lovely crystalized (1 mm. the biggest xx) inspite the specimen was stored in bad conditions for many decades. From ...
