Pumice quarries, Wingertsberg Mt., Niedermendig, Mendig, Laach lake volcanic complex, Eifel Mts, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany Found december 17/2006 at a small dump on top of the quarry road which is going to the deeper part of the quarry. The longest needles are up to 20 mm. We have found lots of these Aragonite species in just a half an hour and without tools. |

Pumice quarries, Wingertsberg Mt., Niedermendig, Mendig, Laach lake volcanic complex, Eifel Mts, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany Chevkinite-(Ce) on Rhodonite/Bustamite matrix. Black prismatic crystals with an amphibole-like habit. Confirmed by XRD and SEM-EDS analysis. Ce/La ratio is about 52/48. Field of view 6 mm. Collected in 07/1982, photograph by Stephan Wolfsried. |
