Enormous acanthite x of 2.5cm (one inch) edge to edge. The acanthite xls on this matrix specimen are exceptionally well developed and show hardly any solution etching. Consequently there is relatively little native silver present, however enough to create a nice contrast to the acanthite.

Acanthite : Ag2S

Hongda Mine, Xiaoqinggou Ag-Mn deposit, Lingqiu Co., Datong Prefecture, Shanxi Province, China

There are quite a few acanthites coming from China these days, but very few of them have any good crystal shape. This one has both shape and size and no damage. It is more than 3 cm tall and 2 x 2 cm wide and deep. Very nice!
