Rosiclare Mine, Rosiclare, Rosiclare Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA

Excellent and complex crystal. Very rich in faces, of which the scalenohedron clearly dominates. Very intense color, and it rests on a base of cubic deep purple Fluorite crystals.
Rosiclare level, Denton Mine, Hardin County, Illinois, USA.
Specimen size: 7.8 x 4.5 x 4.2 cm.
Main crystal size: 6.6 x 3.8 cm.

Cerussite : PbCO3, Fluorite : CaF2

Rosiclare Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA

Cerussite crystal on fluorite with iron stain and tiny pyromorphite crystals. Found on Rosiclare mill site September 1992, original mine unknown. Alan Goldstein specimen (8081) and photo. FOV = 8 mm

Chalcopyrite : CuFeS2, Quartz : SiO2

Rosiclare, Rosiclare Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA

Quartz crystals surround chalcopyrite. Calcite removed with HCl. From the Rosiclare mill dump, so the mine is unknown, but probably from the Rosiclare veins. Specimen 1606 in the collection of the photographer, Alan Goldstein. FOV = 7 mm

Fluorite : CaF2

Rosiclare Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA

A group of sky blue zoned partial fluorites (naturally cleaved behind) with yellowish centres and hydrocarbon inclusions. The top surface of the specimen is partially coated with second generation fluorite, barite and minor chalcopyrite.

Fluorite : CaF2, Calcite : CaCO3

Rosiclare Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA

Cubic fluorite crystals up to 3 cm with scattered overgrowth of colorless calcite crystals up to 2.5 mm. The fluorite is purple outer layer with yellow center zones. No damage. Overall size of mineral specimen: 8x6x4.5 cm. Size of individual crystals: 1-30 mm.

Fluorite : CaF2, Calcite : CaCO3, Sphalerite : (Zn,Fe2+)S

Rosiclare Sub-District, Illinois - Kentucky Fluorspar District, Hardin Co., Illinois, USA

Crust of colorless fluorite 2 cm thick over matrix. The face of the fluorite is terminated with purple fluorite up to 25 mm on edge. Scattered over the fluorite are small black sphalerite crystals and colorless calcite crystals. Ex. Earle Sullivan collection (Ct.). Overall size of mineral specimen: 9x5x5 cm. Size of individual crystals: 2-25 mm.
