Ivigtut Cryolite deposit, Ivittuut (Ivigtut), Arsuk Firth, Arsuk, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland Fragment of transparent ice-like monograin of chiolite. When seeing on the specimen begin to understand, that name for chiolite(=snow-stone from Greek) was mixed up - this mineral much more similar to ice, than cryolite (=ice-stone from Greek). But on the type locality chiolite really is similar to dirty snow in March... Associating mineral is ... |

Ivigtut Cryolite deposit, Ivittuut (Ivigtut), Arsuk Firth, Arsuk, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland An EXCELLENT, lustrous, translucent and blocky specimen of the VERY RARE mineral chiolite from Greenland. Chiolite is related to cryolite, but is much rarer and only occurs as massive material. This is a valuable piece of gem rough weighing 28 grams. 3.6 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm |

Gasberg's Topaz-Cryolite Pit), Ilmen Natural Reserve, Ilmen Mts, Chelyabinsk Oblast', Southern Urals, Urals Region, Russia Crystals of white translucent chiolite in massive granular chiolite from the type locality. Chiolite was formed here as alteration products of primary cryolite-cryolithionite agregate. Associating mineral is ralstonite forming water-clear shining octahedron in the same cavity. FOV is ~4x3 mm. Mined and collected in 1845. Pavel M. Kartashov ... |
