Araçuaí, Jequitinhonha valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

7.4 x 6.4 x 3.0 cm. A 3.2 cm, highly lustrous and partially gemmy, emerald-green, chromium diopside crystal in a chromium diopside and quartz matrix from Aracuai, Brazil. Very few of these came out a number of years ago and this a highly representative specimen of this species and locality. Ex. George Elling Collection, circa 1960s.

Brilliant green crystal of translucent chrome diopside. One end has an irregular termination with overgrowth of another yellow mineral (enstatite?). The crystal has complex sides with striated surfaces. Clean and lustrous. Overall size of mineral specimen: 22x12x3 mm. Size of individual crystals: 22 mm.

Kimberlite specimen from the Jericho Pipe, NWT, Canada, Canada's third diamond mine to come into operation. This specimen has all the classic kimberlite indicator minerals (KIMs) - green chromium diopside, red-purple garnet, olivine, and even a picro-ilmenite on the reverse.
