Doyleite : Al(OH)3, Sphalerite : (Zn,Fe2+)S

Cerro de Potosí (Cerro Rico), Potosí City, Potosí Department, Bolivia

An 18cm specimen of multicolored Doyleite crusts on massive Sphalerite. Purchased by fellow PhD student, Sam Haines at Cerro Rico as a smithsonite. It was later identified as Doyleite by XRD. Sam cut the specimen in half, and gave me this half, the other remains in his personal collection. C. Stefano specimen #1919.
