The greatest beauty in the world of mineralogy, in my opinion, is the isolated gem crystal on matrix.( 17 mm. ) So be it with this lovely, bright green emerald crystal on a matrix of quartz and muscovite. 42 x 50 x 35 mm. Crystal-Odyssey specimen. gemcrystals@aol.com

Coscuez Mine (Cosquez Mine), Muzo, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia

Bright green emerald crystals in white calcite matrix. The green color is very intense and is the best color for emerald. The crystal was frozen in matrix in two sections separated 3 mm apart - a result of metamorphic deformation. No damage, very gemmy. Overall size of mineral specimen: 35x30x25 mm. Size of individual crystals: 25 mm.

Beryl (Var: Emerald) : Be3(Al,Cr)2Si6O18, Calcite : CaCO3

Coscuez Mine (Cosquez Mine), Muzo, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia

This gorgeous specimen has two beautiful deep-green emerald crystals perched among jewel-like, multifaceted calcites that really accent the emeralds and contrast with the green. The major emerald atop is 1.5 cm long and is exceptionally gemmy. In fact, it contains gem rough equal to several thousand dollars in cutting value. It literally glows ...

Beryl (Var: Emerald) : Be3(Al,Cr)2Si6O18, Calcite : CaCO3

Coscuez Mine (Cosquez Mine), Muzo, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia

This juicy specimen has great aesthetics, perched front and center on matrix as it is! The crystal is 4 cm long and 10-1mm thick. The crystal is terminated atop (though with a contact on the back of that termination that is in any case not visible from the display face) and is probably terminated on the bottom, though it is rough there and so the ...

Beryl (Var: Emerald) : Be3(Al,Cr)2Si6O18

Coscuez Mine (Cosquez Mine), Muzo, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia

This is a gorgeous matrix specimen featuring a 2.5 x 1.2 x 1.2 cm emerald crystal perched on the side of an attractively balancing matrix. THE CRYSTAL IS AN INCH LONG!! It is so transparently clean that you can look right through it, for the upper two thirds at least. Even the bottom third is still fairly gemmy and translucent, looking in through ...

This is a second gorgeous matrix specimen from this same recent and unique matrix find, featuring a 2 x 0.8 x 0.75 cm emerald crystal perched attractively against contrasting matrix. THE CRYSTAL IS ALMOST AN INCH LONG!! It is so transparently clean that you can look right through most of it, looking through it to the matrix beyond. It has a sharp, ...

Beryl (Var: Emerald) : Be3(Al,Cr)2Si6O18

Coscuez Mine (Cosquez Mine), Muzo, Vasquez-Yacopí Mining District, Boyacá Department, Colombia

4.7 x 4.1 x 3.6 cm. The Emerald measures 3.0 x 1.2 cm. The crystal is perfectly centered against a matrix of white Calcite. It is highly gemmy for an Emerald of this size, and not at all cloudy or murky, like so many tend to be. The color is almost electric as it is not a dark green, but a very vibrant green and extremely lively. The crystal ...
