Ephesite : NaLiAl2[(OH)2|Al2Si2O10]

Postmasburg, Griqualand, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

6.7 x 3.9 x 3.2 cm. Sharp, richly colored crystals to 6mm of this rare species related to diaspore, clustered attractively on a display-sized matrix, make this both an important rarity AND a fine display specimen for any collection. These rarities were found in the late 1970s or early 1980s and not since, in any quality. Ex. Charlie Key.

Gamagara Ridge, Gloucester Farm, Postmasburg manganese field, Northern Cape Province, South Africa

Ephesite. Vasco Trancoso collection and photo. Size: 8.4 x 5.3 x 5.2 cm with crystals up to 7,5mm. This particularly unusual find (mid-1980s), was a major one in South Africa. This piece is outstanding for size and overall color of the display view. I would say it has to be "up there" in quality for the species. The rich, luscious cherry-red ...
