Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada Self collected by Modris Baum Oct 1999. FOV 1.3 x 1.9 mm. It looks like shkatulkalite or vuonnemite from the same locality but this find was determined to be epistolite by three labs. The most recent (Oct 2008) was a microprobe by Pavel Kartashov. |

Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada FOV 2.3 x 2.4 mm (lhs) and 3.2 x 2.4 mm (rhs). Collected by Modris B and JPB Oct 1999. Now three times analyzed. Epistolite is supposedly always pseudomorphous after vuonnemite. The rh rosette certainly looks altered. The lh one much less so. And much of the material from this find looks completely fresh and "primary". The "rosette" habit also ... |

Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada FOV ~ 3 mm wide. Via Jean-Pierre Beckerich. Collected October 1999. This epistolite has now been ID by three labs. There is a peculiarity: epistolite is supposedly always a pseudomorph after vuonnemite. This stuff does not look like a pseudomorph. But a recent (Oct 2008) microprobe by Pavel Kartashov shows that it really is epistolite. The dark ... |

Demix-Varennes quarry, Saint-Amable sill, Varennes & St-Amable, Lajemmerais RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada FOV ~ 8 mm wide. Via Jean-Pierre Beckerich. The small lath shaped xls in the upper rh side are the epistolite. The epistolite has been verified by three different labs. But it does NOT look like a pseudomorph. The xls are very small but I used my macro lens (rather than my scope) because that setup gave me the best color fidelity so far. The ... |

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada FOV 2.5 x 2.9 mm. Modris B. coll (ex Ron Waddell). The epistolite looks like a thick "crazed" glaze. It does not fluoresce which seems to be a good way to distinguish it from vuonnemite (at least at MSH). |

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada FOV ~ 2 cm high. Via Jean-Pierre Beckerich. Found 2003. Not analyzed. The epistolite looks quite pink. Under a scope it looks colorless when looking through the plates, pink when looking edge on. There are some dark violet/mahogany colored raite fibers between the plates (see bottom of photo) and there may be other inclusions as well. The brown ... |
