Ferberite : FeWO4

Lake Boga granite quarry, Lake Boga, Victoria, Australia

Had to take a photo of this one before it 'is no more'! Towards the right of the ferberite crystal, which is coated by pyrite(?), you can see a break. It is likely that the specimen will some time simply break apart. But its a nice crystal so at least it will exist in this photo. From the K & M Brown Collection. Field of view 8mm.

Ferberite : FeWO4

Tazna Mine (Tasna Mine; Tazna-Rosario Mine), Cerro Tazna, Atocha-Quechisla District, Nor Chichas Province, Potosí Department, Bolivia

4.3 x 3.7 x 3.5 cm. This was one of the very few matrix pieces from the recent find of these amazing specimens. This is an eloquent piece featuring several sharp, lustrous, jet black blades of Ferberite associated with a few gemmy Quartz crystals. There are several crystals on the front of the specimen which are actually a multi-twinned crystal ...

Ferberite : FeWO4

Tazna Mine (Tasna Mine; Tazna-Rosario Mine), Cerro Tazna, Atocha-Quechisla District, Nor Chichas Province, Potosí Department, Bolivia

3.0 x 2.1 x 1.7 cm. Here is a superb, twinned crystal of Ferberite. This piece features the classic, "butterfly" twinning of Ferberite along the (100) face. This piece is a good sized, sharp, lustrous, aesthetic jet-black twinned crystal that is displayable from several angles. Admittedly, there is a very small amount of damage to this crystal, ...

Ferberite : FeWO4

Tazna Mine (Tasna Mine; Tazna-Rosario Mine), Cerro Tazna, Atocha-Quechisla District, Nor Chichas Province, Potosí Department, Bolivia

6.2 x 5.8 x 3.2 cm. This was one of the very few pieces from the recent find with this habit and "style" of crystallization. This is an eloquent piece featuring several sharp, lustrous, jet black blades of Ferberite aesthetically forming a beautiful specimen. The piece is not 100% perfect, and there are some broken crystals, but considering that ...

Tazna Mine (Tasna Mine; Tazna-Rosario Mine), Cerro Tazna, Atocha-Quechisla District, Nor Chichas Province, Potosí Department, Bolivia

4.8 x 4.0 x 3.6 cm. A supremely sharp, jet-black, metallic twinned crystal of ferberite from perhaps the best locality for the species in its twinned habit. This crystal is 3-dimensional, sharp, and really beautiful for a "black ugly." It is almost pristine, with just a few really insignificant dings and otherwise compete all around. It was one of ...

Ferberite : FeWO4, Marcasite : FeS2

Tazna Mine (Tasna Mine; Tazna-Rosario Mine), Cerro Tazna, Atocha-Quechisla District, Nor Chichas Province, Potosí Department, Bolivia

4.5 x 4.2 x 3.4 cm. This is a very attractive display specimen of Ferberite from Bolivia. The piece features rather large, sharp, lustrous, aesthetic, jet-black, tabular crystals of Ferberite with a "ball" of associated Marcasite on the specimen as well. The specimen is great shape overall, and allows for multiple angles to display the piece. ...
