Ghazni (Gazni) Province, Afghanistan

This specimen of DEMONTOID garnet comes from a remote area near GHAZNI, AFGHANISTAN.
The colour is typical that of like mild green emerald.
The crystals have very highly polished surfaces and the matrix is mica-included CHROMITE.

Superb garnet crystal actually consisting in a lustrous garnet "crust" covering a core made of alternating quartz & garnet crystalization. Luster & sharpness are pretty good for the size.
