Khaldzan Buragtag massif, Altai Mts, Hovd Aimag (Khovd Aimag), Mongolia

SEM image of grey in BSE sections of short-prismatic Gittinsite crystals embeded into unnamed Na-Sr-Zr silicate (HBU UK-3). Apparently this is the first evidence of existence of primary gittinsite on the massif. Usually gittinsite is abundant here in quartz assemblages inside of deep decomposed elpidite grains. Zirconosilicates are accompanied by ...

Gittinsite : CaZr[Si2O7], Zircon : Zr[SiO4]

Khaldzan Buragtag massif, Altai Mts, Hovd Aimag (Khovd Aimag), Mongolia

11.5x7x3.5 cm fragment of outer, pegmatoid zone of the pegmatite #3. Light-brown finegrained material is pseudomorphoses after completely decomposed calcian Elpidite. These PS composed by quartz impregnated by microcrystals of Zircon and Gittinsite and late formed deep violet Fluorite. Other minerals on the picture are: white primary Quartz, ...

Gittinsite : CaZr[Si2O7], Zircon : Zr[SiO4], Fluorite : CaF2, Microcline : K[AlSi3O8], Aegirine : NaFe3+[Si2O6], Quartz : SiO2

Khaldzan Buragtag massif, Altai Mts, Hovd Aimag (Khovd Aimag), Mongolia

Fragment of outer pegmatoid zone of pegmatite #3. Light-brown finegrained material is pseudomorphoses after completely decomposed calcian Elpidite. These PS composed by quartz (SiO2 content of elpidite is 60.11 mas.%) impregnated by crystals of Zircon and Gittinsite. Content of Ca in elpidite determine quontity of new formed gittinsite. ...
