Colorado Mine (Colorado Quartz Mine), Colorado, Whitlock District, Bagby-Mariposa-Mount Bullion-Whitlock District, Mariposa Co., California, USA Extraordinary miniature. The group, very aerial and esthetic, is formed by crystals of perfectly defined faces and edges and has hoppered growth on the areas corresponding to the octahedron faces. It is from a locality famous for producing the best gold crystals. Colorado Quartz Mine, Mariposa County, California, USA. Specimen size: 1.9 x ... Mindat.org Photo of the Day - 27th Jul 2007 |

Colorado Mine (Colorado Quartz Mine), Colorado, Whitlock District, Bagby-Mariposa-Mount Bullion-Whitlock District, Mariposa Co., California, USA This is simply a superb gold, for any size, reflecting exquisite crystallization of a number of different crystal habits. I think the pics speak for themselves and for the quality of JP's eye in selecting the choicest specimens for his collection and dealer stock, here. Irv purchased it from the personal collection of now-deceased dealer JP Cand, ... |

Colorado Mine (Colorado Quartz Mine), Colorado, Whitlock District, Bagby-Mariposa-Mount Bullion-Whitlock District, Mariposa Co., California, USA WOW! SUPER, 3-DIMENSIONAL, HOPPERED CRYSTALS OF GOLD line the sides and rise from teh top of this well-trimmed quartz matrix. This is, to me, the most desirable form of gold - 3-dimensional thick crystals. Also, the piece is great from both sides! Colorado Quartz Mine specimens carry a price premium, it is true; but then they also stand out in a ... |

Colorado Mine (Colorado Quartz Mine), Colorado, Whitlock District, Bagby-Mariposa-Mount Bullion-Whitlock District, Mariposa Co., California, USA From the California gold mine that has produced the most valuable crystallized golds, this specimen, shaped like a cornucopia, contains numerous sharp octahedrons up to 2.5mm across. It is a really hefty piece, and has great appeal for the sheer mass of the gold, BUT it also has good crystallization at a relatively "nuggety" price despite that ... |

Colorado Mine (Colorado Quartz Mine), Colorado, Whitlock District, Bagby-Mariposa-Mount Bullion-Whitlock District, Mariposa Co., California, USA A sharp pagoda-like cluster culminating in a very 3-dimensional, unusually sharp, perfect octohedral gold crystal (4mm on edge)! This specimen was formerly in the isometric thumbnails competition case of my mentor, Carlton Davis of Columbus , Ohio. 1 x 0.9 x 0.7 cm |

Colorado Mine (Colorado Quartz Mine), Colorado, Whitlock District, Bagby-Mariposa-Mount Bullion-Whitlock District, Mariposa Co., California, USA A sharply crystallized gold specimen, complete ALL around, and looking curiously like a scots terrier, hence its nickname of "scotty dog" by the previous owners. It weighs 32 grams (just over an ounce) and was collected in 1993. This is a really sturdy piece, and CQ mine specimens are generally far sturdier and thicker than their Eagles Nest Mine ... |

Colorado Mine (Colorado Quartz Mine), Colorado, Whitlock District, Bagby-Mariposa-Mount Bullion-Whitlock District, Mariposa Co., California, USA 7.8 x 5.9 x 3.3 cm. Just incredible....A hefty, 3-dimensional, very impactful gold that leaps out from matrix. And it has a huge weight to it. This is from the Colorado Quartz Mine, and is a piece that came out in the late 90s and was sold privately at that time. It weighs a hefty 300 grams. |
