Neat halite with ghost crystals inside. The ghost crystals are pyramidal hopper crystals which form on the surface of the water when evaporation is high, and float due to the surface tension. When they sink, they become the nucleus for the normal cubic halite crystals. Field of view 15cm.

Bad Ischl in Upper Austria was one of the most prominent salt mines in our area, but the mines are closed since some years. Specimen were always difficult to obtain - this one is a really fine sample.
