Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV 4.6 x 5.0 mm. Modris B coll (May 2000). Hibschite is fairly rare at MSH but this blast produced many xls of exceptional size. The xl shows the characteristic "stepped" growth pattern and penetration twinning. It was associated with relatively abundant UK39 (hellandite grp - formerly called tadzhikite-(Ce). The coating is ubiquitous at MSH and ...

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV ~ 4.5 cm wide. Found April 2000.
The largest hibschite xls are the two top leftmost xls in the "mouth" - just below the pectolite "teeth". Small fluorite cubes can barely be seen on the far left xl and there others scattered about in the vicinity.
The xls in the center - just below the hibschite - are pectolite.
The large xl on the rhs ...

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV 3.1 x 2.3 mm. Collected by Modris B. June 1997.
The hibschite xls are the two rounded octahedrons. These small xls show only a hint of the "stepped" growth characteristic of MSH hibschite. In my experience such small xls are not really rare but can be easily overlooked.
The clear pectolite prisms are perfect - except for the unruly ...

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV 4.7 x 4.5 mm. Collecte by Modris B April 2000. This shows the characteristic "stepped" growth very clearly.

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV 4.4 x 5.5 mm. Collected by Modris B. Anotherfairly large example from the April 2000 blast. The tiny fluorite cubes range from nearly colorless to deep purple.

FOV 9.3 x 8.4 mm. Collected by Modris B. June 1997.
XRD shows that the dodecahedrons are "garnet group". Based on the appearance and environment they are almost certainly hibschite despite the somewhat unusual habit (for hibschite). They are also quite large for the species at MSH.
The clear prisms with partly fibrous terminations are ...
