Fiskenaes (Fiskenaesset; Qeqertarsuatsiaat), Nuuk (Godthåb), Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland

Light-coloured greenish-grey, prismatic, low-iron Kornerupine crystals in Quartz from the type locality in Greenland. Associating minerals are lilack transparent Cordierite grain, plates of weak coloured golden-pearly Phlogopite and very minor brownish-red grains of Rutil. Specimen size 4x3.5 cm. Pavel M. 2 crystals of greyish green kornerupine without matrix. The crystal at left is 2,8 cm x 2 cm and is partly covered by phlogopite. It has transparent gemmy parts inside. The crystal at right measures 3,3 x 2 cm. It was obtained from a malagasy gem prospector in Antsirabe that claimed that he had found these at Voatavo in the Ivohibe area, but I ...

Horombe Region, Fianarantsoa Province, Madagascar

Kornerupine, rare, sharp, dark green terminated crystal from the Horombe Region, Madagascar. Dimensions 30 x 15 x 12 mm. The crystal is mostly opaque, but gemmy in areas. Ibrahim Jameel (Khyber Minerals) purchased it in the town square in Antsirabe in August, 2009. K. Nash specimen and image.
