Afghanistan Several vivid blue Lazurite crystals are partially embedded in a nicely contrasting white Calcite on Marble matrix. The euhedral crystals measure up to 2.5cm. Great colour in this specimen. Pellman #1000b Size: 75mm x 80mm x 40mm Collection: ex. Pellman Collection |

Badakhshan (Badakshan; Badahsan) Province, Afghanistan A wonderfully sharp and finely-articulated crystal of lazurite, sitting right up on the marble matrix and exposed all around (unlike many specimens that are substantially buried in the matrix). A superb representative mini for this species! 5.0 x 4.9 x 3.2 cm |

Badakhshan (Badakshan; Badahsan) Province, Afghanistan Lazurite (also called lapis lazuli) rarely is found in large, perfectly-formed CRYSTALS such as this. The 3.4-cm crystal is complete and undamaged all around, and trimmed out perfectly on the contrasting matrix. This specimen is just so unusually sharp and fine. 5 x 5 x 3.4 cm |

Badakhshan (Badakshan; Badahsan) Province, Afghanistan A euhedral crystal of lazurite (also known as lapis lazuli), the vast majority of which is found in massive form, but occasionally in nice crystals such as this one. Sharp faces, fine form! 2.4 x 2.1 x 1.8 cm |

Badakhshan (Badakshan; Badahsan) Province, Afghanistan The diameter of the dodecahedra varies between 2 and 2.5 cm. Better in stereo. Sept 2009: Updated using stacking. The new stereo view is "vertical" making it easier to fuse. |

Badakhshan (Badakshan; Badahsan) Province, Afghanistan Transparent lustrous crystals of lazurite in a vug. A vug was filled with elemental sulfur (and it was dissolved in hot toluene). The lattice constants and the Laue group were cheked by single-crystal X-ray crystallographic analysis. FoV = 1.6 cm Nikon Macro Nikkor 65mm F4.5/Nikon Multiphot/Nikon D3 |

Koksha Valley (Kokscha; Kokcha), Badakhshan (Badakshan; Badahsan) Province, Afghanistan Huge crystals of Lazurite with Pyrite on matrix! The top crystal measures 7.5 cm and the bottom crystal 4.2 cm! Both dodecahedrons are sharp and well formed and contrast beautifully with the Pyrite and white matrix. From the Koksha Valley, Badakhshan Province, Afghanistan. Measures 11.2 cm by 13.6 cm in size.
