Lepidolite : K(Li,Al)3(Si,Al)4O10(F,OH)2, Quartz : SiO2, Elbaite : [Na][(Li,Al)3][Al6][(OH)3|OH|(BO3)3|Si6O18]

Lepidolite, Quartz, Tourmaline
Kunnar, Afghanistan
16.2x 15.0x 6.7 cm

Although this is mostly lepidolite, usually considered to be simply a "matrix" mineral, this is a very large and beautiful specimen in its own right. It has small tourmalines, sprinkled in vugs as well as a light smoky quartz crystal perched on the end.

Lepidolite : K(Li,Al)3(Si,Al)4O10(F,OH)2, Albite : Na[AlSi3O8], Elbaite : [Na][(Li,Al)3][Al6][(OH)3|OH|(BO3)3|Si6O18]

Peech, Konar (Kunar; Konarh; Konarha; Nuristan) Province, Afghanistan

16.9 x 14.0 x 6.8 cm. An incredibly large and rich specimen of translucent, lavender lepidolite, from Peech. This large, heavy specimen is solid lepidolite, and on top, it has formed wonderful crystallized "flowers" with a thin "snowfall" of albite. Lying across the lepidolite is a gemmy, three-centimeter, terminated crystal of tourmaline.

Lepidolite : K(Li,Al)3(Si,Al)4O10(F,OH)2, Albite : Na[AlSi3O8]

Alto da Cabeca Mine, Parelhas, Borborema mineral province, Rio Grande do Norte, Northeast Region, Brazil

Recently, some very attractive 3 – 4 cm “balls” of lepidolite with the general appearance of the lepidolite on this specimen have come from Brazil. But this is the first I have EVER seen on matrix – and a fine matrix of snowy Albite blades, at that! The lepidolites, with a pleasing lavender color, are isolated on the matrix, and have a ...

Lepidolite : K(Li,Al)3(Si,Al)4O10(F,OH)2

Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

Two interconnected crystals of lepidolite. The crystals are lilac-purple and transparent. The crystal shape is unusual - starting to form the classic star-mica shape, but not quite there yet. No damage. Overall size of mineral specimen: 30x22x14 mm. Size of individual crystals: 16-20 mm.

Lepidolite : K(Li,Al)3(Si,Al)4O10(F,OH)2

Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

Pretty lavender lepidolite, with an almost metallic sheen, formed in a myriad of shell-like layers into what is known as "ball" lepidolite. Unusual! 3.6 x 3.1 x 2.2 cm
