Madagascar Liddicoatite is a member of the tourmaline group. A few pegmatites in Madagascar have produced superb, gem-quality examples of this unusual, intricately color-zoned tourmaline. Antsirabé, Vakinankaratra Region (Betafo - Antsirabé region), Antananarivo Province, Madagascar 6.0 x 3.8 x 2.8 cm. Liddicoatite is a rare tourmaline species, seldom found in such large and gemmy crystals as this one. Also, the deep red hue is very fine on this piece: not mottled in color as they often are. Anjanabonoina pegmatites, Mount Ikaka, Ambohimanambola Commune, Betafo District, Vakinankaratra Region (Betafo - Antsirabé region), Antananarivo Province, Madagascar Liddicoatite from Anjanabonoina, Betafo, Antsirabé A floater crystal whose base is partially re-crystallized.
