Caspar quarry, Ettringer Bellerberg Mt. (Bellberg Mt.; Bellenberg Mt.; Billenberg Mt.; Boilenberg Mt.), Bellerberg volcano, Ettringen, Mayen, Eifel Mts, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Small grains and crystals of black magnesioferrite. Occurence and association (here not fully identified, though) are somewhat similar to that of burning coal heaps magnesioferrites. Field of view is 1.8 mm. Specimen obtained from Jiri Spalek - thanks!

Wannenköpfe, Ochtendung, Polch, Eifel Mts, Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany

Rare Magnesioferrite as black, grey, dark blue crystals with many faces, often with rounded sides, sometimes almost little balls.
Analysed by .. and thanks to .. Günter Blass (Eschweiler). EDX showed: 45% Mg - 49% Fe - 5% Al - 1% Mn. Image width: 1,5mm.

A very good 3 mm, octaedric magnesioferrite crystal. There are also some other magnesioferrite crystals covered by hematite on the specimen. The Specimen was collected by and is in the collection of the Italian collector Achille Panunzi. Photo: OT. Ljostad.
