Broken Hill, Yancowinna Co., New South Wales, Australia 3.7 x 3.5 x 2.4 cm. An old-time Broken Hill specimen of tufted, grayish-tan atop radial, acicular, brown crystals. The old label has the mineral labeled as kutnohorite. However, according to 1982, Worner and Mitchell "Minerals of Broken Hill", "kutnohorite" (from this locality) has been shown to be microscopic intergrowths of manganoan calcite and ... |

Droujba (Drujba) Mine, Djurkovo Complex, Laki (Luki), Rhodope Mts, Plovdiv Oblast, Bulgaria 7.2 x 6.4 x 5.2 cm. This glistening cluster of calcite is actually composed of hundreds of small, disc-like crystals with pyramidal terminations, piled into towers several centimeters high. The faint pastel pink color is from manganese content, rather common in specimens from this mining area. |

Droujba (Drujba) Mine, Djurkovo Complex, Laki (Luki), Rhodope Mts, Plovdiv Oblast, Bulgaria 26.5 x 23.0 x 11.0 cm. A fine, large cabinet plate covered with sharp, lustrous, gemmy, "baby pink", sceptered calcite scalenohedrons. The complex rhombohedral terminations on the scepters are very glassy and the sides have the tiny, stepped-face, parallel-growth calcite rhombs, just like the famous Shullsburg, Wisconsin calcites. The largest ... |
