Molybdenite : MoS2

Mount Metallic Mine, Whipstick, Auckland Co., New South Wales, Australia

Fans of molybdenite in altered granite. As an added bonus, this specimen is mildly radioactive (uranium minerals are known from this group of deposits). Length of bottom fragment 5cm.

Molybdenite : MoS2

Allies Mine (Allies Molybdenite and Bismuth Mines; Allies Molybdenite; Allies and Manbundi Mine), Deepwater, Gough Co., New South Wales, Australia

A very large, super-bright crystal of molybdenite from old finds in Australia! The hexagonal form of the crystal is quite clear here, which is rather rare, especially for such a large crystal. Molybdenite forms in super-thin sheets due to its atomic structure, with the atoms lining up on a single plane. 8.8 x 5.1 x 1.7cm

Molybdenite : MoS2, Quartz : SiO2

Kingsgate, Gough Co., New South Wales, Australia

The crystal, as usual in Molybdenite samples, is slightly deformed but it has a good part of its hexagonal outline and it is very well positioned on the Quartz matrix

Kingsgate, New England District, New South Wales Australia
Found: ±1920

Specimen size: 5 x 4 x 3.2 cm

Main crystal size: 4 x 3.6 cm
