Montebrasite : LiAl[(OH,F)|PO4], Zircon : Zr[SiO4], Scorzalite : (Fe2+,Mg)Al2[OH|PO4]2

Unnamed Pegmatite, Glen Wills, Mt Wills Mining District, Omeo, East Gippsland Shire, Victoria, Australia

2 brown, twinned zircons occupying the grain boundary between brownish albite and white montebrasite. The montebrasite is altered to blue scorzalite in places. The zircons are probably rimmed with goyazite, making them look a bit scrappy. The brown colour of the albite is almost certainly due to radiation damage, the zircons from this pegmatite ...

Montebrasite : LiAl[(OH,F)|PO4]

Linópolis, Divino das Laranjeiras, Doce valley, Minas Gerais, Southeast Region, Brazil

9.6 x 9.3 x 6.9 cm. This is a fist-sized cluster of thick, fat, intensely yellow montebrasite crystals with minor cleavelandite association. Clusters are very rare, and these chunky, deep-colored crystals really combine to make a fine overall specimen. The piece is not pristine, as it has some contacts around the edges and a few trivial dings on ...
