Naujakasite : (Na,K)6(Fe2+,Mn2+,Ca)(Al,Fe)4Si8O26

Ilimaussaq complex, Narsaq, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland

9.5 x 7.0 x 5.5 cm. A rich specimen of the rare silicate naujakasite in crystals on matrix from the Type Locality area in Greenland. Lustrous, greenish-gray crystals reach 2.3 cm on this most excellent specimen for the species. Ex Copenhagen Geological Museum.

Naujakasite : (Na,K)6(Fe2+,Mn2+,Ca)(Al,Fe)4Si8O26, Aegirine : NaFe3+[Si2O6]

Kvanefjeld tunnel, Kvanefjeld Uranium deposit, Kuannersuit (Kvanefjeld) plateau, Ilimaussaq complex, Narsaq, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland

A 0,8 mm wellformed, greenish, translucent naujakasite crystal in vuggy rock. The specimen was collected on the dumps from rocks coming from the Kvanefjeld tunnel. The specimen was collected by and is in the micromount collection of OT. Ljostad.

Naujakasite : (Na,K)6(Fe2+,Mn2+,Ca)(Al,Fe)4Si8O26

Naujakasik (Naajakasik), Tunugdliarfik Firth (Eriksfjord), Ilimaussaq complex, Narsaq, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland

A sharp 1.4 cm crystal perched on matrix is the predominant feature here, but on the backside there is a cleaved-in-half partial crystal measuring a whopping 3 cm across, as well! This is an extremely rare species from the type locality, and this should be considered an excellent crystal. 4 x 3 x 3 cm

Naujakasik (Naajakasik), Tunugdliarfik Firth (Eriksfjord), Ilimaussaq complex, Narsaq, Kitaa (West Greenland) Province, Greenland

A 1,5 cm aggregate of well formed crystals of Naujakasite in matrix from a mountain east of Naujakasik at the Tunugliarfik fiord in the Ilimaussaq complex. The original find at the type locality Naujakasik consisted of a loose boulder which may have come from higher up in the mountains. Specimen and photo: Knut Eldjarn.
