Sodalite coating Nepheline crystals. Vasco Trancoso collection and photo. Size (overall): 6.5 x 5 x 5 cm Sodalite coated nepheline xls up to 2,5cm across (please see child photo). Outstanding Nepheline/Sodalite (Microprobe Confirmed) specimen with a neon blue impressive colour. The current belief is that a poly sulfide ion is responsible for the ...

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV 6.0 x 4.6 mm. Modris B. coll (ex Ron Waddell). The greenish nepheline does not fluoresce orange - a good indication that it has not been replaced by sodalite (as is fairly common at MSH). But the xl is not very sharply formed. The eudialyte really is a hot "shocking pink".
There are two stereo child photos - not too useful in this case.

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV 7.8 x 10.5 mm. Modris B. coll (ex DW).
Nepheline syenite is one of the major rock types at MSH but good (or even recognizable) nepheine xls are few and far between. These come from a sodalite xenolith. They have not been replaced by sodalite (as sometimes happens).

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV 1.5 cm high. Via Dave W.
The small pinkish xls have been ID as UK116, the Mn analogue of eudialyte. There are also some small violet prisms of cancrisilite/cancrinite (not analyzed) and some unid xls (perhaps UK53 group). I don't know if the dark stuff is a pyroxene or amphibole - the xls are very twisted and crenulated.

Poudrette quarry (Demix quarry; Uni-Mix quarry; Desourdy quarry), Mont Saint-Hilaire, Rouville RCM, Montérégie, Québec, Canada

FOV 2.5 x 3.4 mm. Modris B. coll (via Dave W).
Unusual for MSH despite the abundance of nepheline syenite.
These are very fresh looking xls and do not fluoresce orange - a good indication that they have not been replaced by sodalite.
