Limecrest Quarry, Sparta Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA A nice specimen of norbergite with bright orange crystals up to 7mm scattered in a band in franklin marble. Most of the norbergite is massive but several of the pieces show crystal structure. Additional norbergite extends around the back of the specimen. There is also a band of tiny gemmy red-pink spinels up to 2mm adjacent to the norbergite band. ... |

Limecrest Quarry, Sparta Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA Self collected by Modris Baum around 1975. The largest xl is about 1.5 cm tall. These xls fluoresce fairly bright yellow. The white calcite is non fluorescent. Per Dunn's Franklin/Sterling Hill monograph I would expect the xls to be chondrodite but all other posts of similar xls from this locality say norbergite. I'm not sure you can tell without ... |

Limecrest Quarry, Sparta Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA The xl is 3 cm long. Found in about 1975. Without analysis it is really not possible to say if this is norbergite or chondrodite (or both). The xl fluoresces bright yellow. The white calcite does not fluoresce. Part of the lower lh corner is missing. Sept 2009: Replaced parent and added stereo child photo with better color fidelity. |

Limecrest Quarry, Sparta Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA Norbergite. Vasco Trancoso collection. Size: 55.2 x 48.0 x 16.5mm The crystal has lemon-butterscotch color, good form, and respectable size for such a complete crystal (about 1 cm). It is perched perfectly atop a marble-like white matrix. The crystal shows yellow fluorescence under SW UV. You will not easily find another Sparta norbergite ... |

Limecrest Quarry, Sparta Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA Xl is ~ 13 x 16 x 9 mm. Found ca 1975. Very deep (but I think accurate) color. I found this on one of my first trips to the quarry. The stuff is very brittle and I didn't know what I was doing. So the lower rh corner is missing. Beginners luck is wasted on beginners. I never found xls as good as this one again. And now (2009) I think the quarry ... |

Limecrest Quarry, Sparta Township, Sussex Co., New Jersey, USA The lh xl is 1.8 cm wide (max). In total about 2.7 cm wide. Found ca 1975. Without analysis it is not possible to be sure if this is notbergite or chondrodite (or both). (Franklin collectors seem to post under norbergite.) These xls fluoresce fairly strong yellow. Stereo child photo. |
