Olenite : (Na,[ ])[(Al,Li)3][Al6][(O,OH)3|OH|(BO3)3|Si6O18]

Graphite quarry, Amstall, Mühldorf, Waldviertel, Lower Austria, Austria

Single 1 mm crystal of olenite [not analysed] from Amstall, Lower Austria.
According to Ertl et al. (2008)(?) the transparent greenish, often rounded tourmaline crystals from this occurrence are V3+-bearing and Mg-rich. They are generally small but not very rare.

Olenite : (Na,[ ])[(Al,Li)3][Al6][(O,OH)3|OH|(BO3)3|Si6O18], Muscovite : KAl2[(OH)2|AlSi3O10], Quartz : SiO2

Curiglia, Curiglia con Monteviasco, Veddasca Valley, Varese Province, Lombardy, Italy

This is one of very few olenite samples found in italy and especially from this unusual locality. These blue olenite crystals lie on a bed of quartz and muscovite leaves. The main crystal is perfectly crystalized and measures cm 1 x 0,2. The whole, EXCEPTIONAL specimens, is cm 8 x 10 x 4,5. Found and collected by Sarah Sudcowsky.

Curiglia, Curiglia con Monteviasco, Veddasca Valley, Varese Province, Lombardy, Italy

This is a real exceptional piece from the unique olenite vein of Curiglia. The matrix is completely filled with transparent deep coloured blue olenite crystals up to cm 0,6. Beside them, on the left side, a still unknown mineral with a pinkish colour and perfect shape of cm 0,3. This is the LONELY crystal of this misterious mineral which has gave ...

Curiglia, Curiglia con Monteviasco, Veddasca Valley, Varese Province, Lombardy, Italy

This is one of the finest olenite crystals collected in the vein! The specimen is cm 5,5 x 4 x 2,5, and it displays many olenite spots. Among them, an icnredible match of a perfect, lustrous and transparent prism of olenite (0,5 cm) and a white beryl (0,5 cm). They are "connected" each other through their terminations. Please, watch the photo of ...
