Painite is surely the most important mineralogical discovery of 2006. It is a very, very rare species and, in the past, only few pieces had been found. Recent finds in Myanmar gave some few more pieces.

4x4 cm side of large pebble, composed by painite with ruby inclusions. Crystaline faces of painite are wisible. Minor associating minerals are small crystals of dark-brown rutile and brown to yellow limonite films with muscovite flakes (apparently this rock initially was enriched with pyrite). Whole specimen size is 4.7x4.5x3.3 cm and weight 97 g. ...
