Pharmacosiderite : KFe3+4[(OH)4|(AsO4)3] · 6-7H2O, Goethite : α-Fe3+O(OH), Quartz : SiO2

Wolfram Mine, Pittong, Ballarat, Victoria, Australia

Yellowish cubes of pharmacosiderite in a vugh partly coated with brown goethite in reef quartz from Pittong. When first collected, the pharmacosiderite was more greenish in colour. Field of view: 2.5mm. In the collection of Dick Haslem.

Pharmacosiderite : KFe3+4[(OH)4|(AsO4)3] · 6-7H2O

Brazil Lake Occurrence (Elizabeth Lake Mine), Sudbury District, Ontario, Canada

A 3.5 x 3.1 x 2.7 cm grouping of pseudomorphs after blocky cubic cobaltite crystals, the largest of these measuring to 8 mm on edge. These crystals are completely replaced by earthy brown pharmacosiderite. A neat pseudomorph specimen for the locality! Complete all around and without damage. Ex Don Belsher collection.

Pharmacosiderite : KFe3+4[(OH)4|(AsO4)3] · 6-7H2O, Atacamite : Cu2[(OH)3|Cl]

Chuquicamata Mine, Chuquicamata District, Calama, El Loa Province, Antofagasta Region, Chile

Occasional yellow druzes of Pharmacosiderite can be seen sometimes on the surfaces of Chuqui specimens, but they are generally individually too small to capture on film or disk. This 0.1 mm crystal group perched on an Atacamite crystal does pose some crystallographic questions. From other angles, with the benefit of a stereoscopic microscope, the ...
