Polybasite : [(Ag,Cu)6(Sb,As)2S7][Ag9CuS4]

Nova Scotia Mine, Cobalt, Coleman Township, Timiskaming District, Ontario, Canada

A Polybasite crystal approx.0.25mm in size. It was found on the waste pile in a fracture in pink dolomite associated with Calcite, Pyrargyrite, Wire Silver, Pyrite, Arsenopyrite, and Safflorite.

It’s hard to imagine a more aesthetic Polybasite than this specimen. The crystal form of overlapping hexagonal blades combined with a beautiful iridescent luster creates a stunning mineral specimen. A rare , larger specimen of the polybasite found in the mid-1970s at this remote mine and stored away in the miner's coffee can (as the infamous story goes) for decades. I have NEVER seen a large matrix specimen for sale, and this one is loaded with poly blades to just under 1 cm. Many have iridescent, beautiful lustre and as a whole it displays ...
