Prehnite : Ca2Al2Si3O12(OH)

Roncari quarry (Tilcon quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut, USA

Large, conical clusters up to 2 cm across of translucent green prehnite. Distinct crystals of prehnite are rare - this specimen has large lustrous crystals with no damage. From an old locality that was seldom collected. Overall size of mineral specimen: 9x6x3 cm. Size of individual crystals: 5-10 mm.

Prehnite : Ca2Al2Si3O12(OH)

Roncari quarry (Tilcon quarry), East Granby, Hartford Co., Connecticut, USA

This chunk of prehnite was originally so rust stained that I soaked it hydrochloric acid. It did a good job, but also caused a predictable blurring of the individual prehnite blades, giving it this frosted appearance. There is almost no luster, but it's still kind of cool. At least it's green. Paul Gilmore specimen and photo.
